Luis Suarez would be the greatest player not to win the PFA Player of the Year award should the Liverpool striker be overlooked at the end of the season, according to skipper Steven Gerrard.
Suarez has been in sensational form this season and scored again in theyesterday.
The Argentinean’s strike at Anfield was his 29th of the campaign and he leads the Premier League scoring charts with 22 goals, ahead of the likes of last season’s Player of the Year Robin van Persie and Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.
‘He’s been doing that for us all season,’ said Gerrard. ‘Before the last deadline, we never got that centre-forward in and he’s almost carried this team on his own. At times he was the only centre-forward we had.
‘He’s top scorer in the league now and he’s been incredible. I can’t put into words how good he’s been.
‘If he doesn’t win an award this year, he’ll be the best player ever not to win an award.’
But Suarez does face stiff competition, especially from Bale who has enjoyed an incredible season at White Hart Lane, both domestically and in Europe, as well as the likes of Chelsea’s Juan Mata, Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla and Manchester United’s Van Persie.
