Gylfi Sigurdsson has urged his Tottenham team-mates to put their energies into Thursday’s Europa League tie against Inter Milan rather than stewing on their Premier League defeat to Liverpool.
Yesterday’s was Spurs’ first defeat in 13 outings – a run which has seen them climb to third in the Premier League and lead 3-0 after the first leg of their last 16 tie.
But Sigurdsson says Andre Villas-Boas’ side must now look to go on another lengthy unbeaten run, starting with Thursday’s trip to the San Siro.
‘It was disappointing but all we can do now is focus on the next game at Inter and make sure we go through,’ said the Icelandic international.
‘We’ve been on an unbelievable run and sometimes things like this happen. We have to make sure we stay together, regroup and get ready for the next game.
‘Hopefully we can go on another run between now and the end of the season.’
Goals from Gareth Bale, Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen mean Spurs go to Italy later this week with one foot in the Europa League quarter-finals, but after being pegged back by Liverpool yesterday, will know the job is not yet done.
