Madrid seem determined to launch a concerted attempt to lure Bale to Spain this summer, with sources at the La Liga champions making light of Spurs’ reluctance to sell, and talk of a price tag upwards of £50million.
For their part, Tottenham are keen to strengthen their striking options with Jermain Defoe and the under-performing Emmanuel Adebayor the only options currently.
The Argentine has been a frustrated figure at the Bernabeu this season with Jose Mourinho often preferring Karim Benzema as his central striker with Higuain more usually deployed from the bench. Mourinho is expected to leave in the summer but Higuain’s own future at the club is by no means secure,
The 25-year-old is thought to have rejected the chance to join Spurs last summer but, if Villas-Boas’ men can secure Champions League qualification, a move to north London may prove attractive this time around.
