American top model Karlie Kloss gives a lesson in off-duty dressing between her Paris Fashion Week assignments.

Her newly bobbed hair may lend Karlie Kloss's features even more of the sweetness of a wartime evacuee, but the 21-year-old American model's daytime look in Paris earlier this week was the epitome of modern chicIf this is the progression of models' off-duty dressing, I'm impressed. Layers of tailoring include a double-breasted jacket for heaven's sake. It's a long while since someone's made that look modern; I think the difference is the wide but cropped cut, rather Nineties Japanese designer style, no?

With that masculine coat balanced on the shoulders (still can't do it, hoping it's going to be passé anytime now) and the classically feminine quilted, chain bag, the effect is that nice blend of boy-meets-girl that we're all rather fond of at the moment.

Ten out of ten, Ms Kloss. While she's not doing anything as crass as power dressing, this woman certainly looks like she's wearing the trousers.
