Sir Alex Ferguson: I’d like to keep ‘Incredible’ Nani at Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson has told winger Luis Nani he still has a future at Old Trafford but his performances must improve if he is to win a new contract at the club.
The 26-year-old has just 18 months left on his current deal at United but speculation is rife that he could be sold, with talks over an extension proving fruitless in the last few weeks.
But in a week when Porto were linked with a possible swap deal involving Nani and their Colombian sensation James Rodriguez, Ferguson says Nani can still have a future at United – but the onus is on him to improve his performances.
‘I would definitely prefer to keep him,’ said Sir Alex.
‘We have been speaking to Nani’s agent for quite a few weeks now but it is entirely up to the boy himself. I would prefer to keep him until the end of his contract. He wants guaranteed first-team football.’

Performances like the Man of the Match display he turned in during the 2-1 win over Reading on Monday are exactly what is being requested by Ferguson, and the Scot has hailed Nani as one of the best match winners in the world.
‘He has scored the most incredible goals. The boy has a talent for winning matches.’
‘He is a consideration and it gives me a headache because Antonio Valencia has been a fantastic player for us and we also have Ashley Young and Ryan Giggs, so our options are fantastic.’
‘That puts us in a strong position.’
