Everton defender Phil Jagielka said he and his team-mates must ‘step up to the plate’ for the remainder of the season, after the Toffees conceded an added-time equaliser at Oldham.
Everton had gone a goal down in the FA Cup fifth round tie at BoundaryPark, but strikes from Victor Anichebe and Jagielka looked to have given the visitors victory, before
And England centre-back Jagielka said his side are under no illusions they must pull their socks up to avoid their season petering out.
‘We got a little edgy and it was a bit like the Alamo near the end,’ he told TalkSport.
‘I was quite excited thinking that I had got the winner but it proved not to be the case.
‘You pray that they mishit the ball and it goes too low and then Smith’s height advantage doesn’t come into play.
‘We need to step up to the plate and we are under no illusions what we need to do for the rest of the season,’

But while a replay at Goodison Park will be another unwanted fixture for David Moyes’ men, it extends Oldham’s FA Cup fairytale even further, after the Latics saw off Liverpool in the fourth round and will provide the League One strugglers with vital funds.
‘The draw is the dream result,’ said caretaker boss Tony Philliskirk.
‘It has been hard financially this season for the chairman to keep things ticking over and hopefully the extra money the replay generates helps.
‘When the goal went in I was just smiling to myself because I know what it means financially. I looked up at the directors box and they were jumping around more than anyone else.’
The draw for the sixth round, featuring both Everton and Oldham, will take place tomorrow evening at 17:55.
