Paris Saint-Germain took a step closer to lifting the Ligue 1 title with a 2-0 victory over Marseille, but all the focus was on a certain Englishman making his debut for the club.
David Beckham took to the field with 14 minutes remaining at the Parc des Princes, replacing Javier Pastore to a rapturous ovation, having been paraded before the home fans before kick-off.
The former England captain’s debut for the Parisians has been a long time coming, after signing for the club nearly a month ago.
But it was worth the wait for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, as the 37-year-old lent a helping boot to proceedings as PSG doubled their lead through Zlatan Ibrahimovic in added time.

Beckham delicately weighted a lofted pass to pick out fellow substitute Jeremy Menez, whose fierce low cross was turned in by the Swede to seal the victory after Nicolas N’Koulou’s earlier own goal, taking PSG three points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
Beckham’s fellow Englishman Joey Barton, meanwhile, had a fantastic match for Marseille, but it’s the former Manchester United man who will steal the headlines.
