Arsenal would consider breaking their wage structure to tie up a deal for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic, according to reports.
The Gunners are reportedly monitoring the versatile forward ahead of a possible summer switch, and manager Arsene Wenger has been given the green light to break the bank to get him.
Arsenal’s highest earner is currently Theo Walcott on around £100,000 a week, while Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker are thought to be close behind.
But Wenger would be willing to spend up to £150,000 a week on the right player, with the board said to be ready to make up to £70million available for transfers, just days after the club announced they had cash reserves totalling £123m.
Jovetic, who is enjoying another stunning season in Serie A, has scored 11 goals in 20 league matches this term, and showed his all-round team play by chipping in with several assists to boot.
Fiorentina are unlikely to sell for less than £35m – a figure that would blow Arsenal’s transfer record, which currently stands at £15m from the acquisition of Andrey Arshavin.
Wenger is also thought to be monitoring Barcelona’s David Villa and Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze, both of whom would be pricey.
